This is my health journal to share my days dealing with an autoimmune disease and track my health. The boring posts will be kept private, if you want access to them, please let me know and I'll add you into the filter.

I hope to share things I learn along the way and spread the word that there are many looking for ways to help ourselves instead of taking medication everyday and letting our bodies take a destructive course.

I have Hashimoto's, which is an autoimmune disease whereby my own antibodies attack my thyroid and create nodules. As a result my thyroid doesn't function the way it should and slows down my metabolism, in other words, the autoimmune disease leads to hypothyroidism. Follow the link to the Hashimoto's page on Wikipedia for some basic information, and keep clicking.. click on hypothyroidism to read symptoms.

I'm just learning now that there are possible connections to Celiac Disease, a high number of people with Hashimoto's also have Celiac disease, which is an intolerance to gluten.

The lj Thryroid community has been a wealth of support and knowledge for me.
